Moyo Hill Camp – Day 37 – 3/13/11

Well I lived through our ‘80’s prom.  It was awkward and pretty silly especially since some of the staff showed up and danced a little with us.  Because everyone stayed up a bit later than usual breakfast was poorly attended this morning so I got an extra piece of toast and an extra helping of fruitJ!  We watched a movie on the migration and other seasonal cycles of the Serengeti from 8 til 10 followed by an intense and exhaustive risk assessment lecture for our trip to Serengeti.  We learned protocols for both night and day, got our tent assignments, and were told what stuff we were helping to pack.  I’m very happy because I like everyone in my tent and I got to help the kitchen staff pack.  The rest of the day we were free to pack our personal stuff and get ready for our big departure tomorrow morning!!!  My alarm is set for 5 am and my bags are as packed as possible.  Just my toothbrush, contacts, and sleeping bag will need to be packed before I head out!  Unfortunately I will have no electricity or internet in the Serengeti so updates will resume when I return five days from now.
However the plan for tomorrow is to have everyone’s bags packed before 6am when breakfast will be served.  We head out in the cruisers by 7 at the latest and reach Ngorongoro Conservation Area Olduvi Gorge (spelling may be wrong) around lunch time.  The gorge is a unique archeological site where the oldest human ancestors were found.  After some time there we plan to continue on to Serengeti where we will game drive to our campsite.  Set up should take about two hours and then we get to do an evening game drive before dinner and crashing for the night.  I am scheduled to be MOD on the 18th and we were told today that the expedition MODs are super MODs so that should be cool.  I get to wake everyone up, make sure everyone is staying hydrated and going where they are suppose to with the things they need, reporting to the staff how everyone is feeling and other stuff I can’t remember.  The other big perk is that my favorite askari Bura is going so maybe I can learn some more Swahili words!  That is everything for now.  When I get back to camp I will update for the whole trip so check back soon
