Moyo Hill Camp – Day 8 – 2/12/11

Since there are no field trips today, I sort of thought today would not be exciting.  Oh so not to be.  The entire group that was suppose to help cook breakfast forgot so the kitchen was rushing to get us breakfast but was really late cause they were 5 people down.  So the very embarrassed breakfast group went out and got us plates (there were none out) and a few of us chipped in to help the kitchen.  We finally got to eat at 7:55 which in turn made all of us late to class.  We certainly did not make a graceful entrance as we all staggered in the door out of breath and wheezing explanations.  The rest of the day (except the 2 hour Environmental Policy class) was fine.  I also got my first experience of doing my laundry.  It involves 2 buckets (1 soapy, 1 clean water) and scrubbing your clothes by hand or with a scrub brush.  I’m proud to say the besides sweating while sitting in the very hot mid-day sun and getting very sun burned legs (stupid not to put sunscreen on) it was a terrific success.  My white socks were scrubbed until nearly all traces of red dirt vanished!  I also fell even more in love with my quick-dry field clothes which practically cleaned themselves and dried in about an hour.  My cotton tee shirts are still damp now almost 8 hours later.  The power has been going out as well as the internet so pretty much everyone has taken the night off from homework.  One more day of classes until our first non-program day!
